Surgery, surgery and more surgery

Postby Emerald » 30am31America/New_York()

I am having to have breast reconstruction completely redone, today at 2:00 so I will be out of commision a day or 2 or 3.....

Doc has to remove implants, rebuild pockets with alloderm, replace implants with small saline ones and redo nipple construction.... He said it will be about a 5 hour surgery and they will most likely keep me over night. Geez, it took that long having my dbl mastectomy!!

I'm so "over it" that if I could stand the looks of having nothing, I would have everything taken out and just be a "boy".

However, I praise God that I have a fabulous surgeon and insurance!!

Artists take time. Hopefully this will give you results that you will be happy and comfortable with, and then you'll be done with surgeries.
Prayers to guide the surgeon's hands, and for a quick, easy and complete recovery.

Emie, I missed this whole post the other day and was told about it in a PM at BCO. I am sorry to hear you are having more surgery! You have been through so much. You are one strong lady.

Ignore the email I sent you this morning. I took care of the problem.

I will pray for you, Emie. May God's Healing Hands be upon you.

Thanks ladies! Im doing really good. Had an allergic reaction to the tape and steri-gauze but that was handled at the doctor's office this afternoon. I was hoping they would remove the drains but no such luck. Drains are nasty. :~~

But I'm healing up just fine! :daisy:

NoBlahMa-- "oops!" I didnt see this post before I saw your email. But if you are reading this post, then you saw my email......follow? :thnk:

Emie, 10-4 good lady!

I am glad to see you are back and posting. It sounds like you are doing well. Oh, those drains! They are hideous creatures for sure. You know the drill. You will feel 100% better once the drains are out.

Keep us posted.

Well, drama continues (no shock there) I continued with itching and rash on my chest, neck and upper arms so doc decided to discontinue antibiotic and start me on steriods. Woke up this morning and now I have red whelks (or is it whelps) idk what it is but I have that and large water blisters on and around the incisions and across my whole chest.

Going to doctor at 4:00. If its drain tubes, thats easy,m they just remove them., If its the alloderm.......... I dont know except more suregery to remove it. :waha:

By any chance, are the red welts where the adhesive was? If every little remnant of that adhesive isn't thoroughly scrubbed off, it can still continue to cause a reaction. I know, you are not scrubbing that area, and can't thoroughly clean it.

I say this as someone who had huge welts and weeping blisters caused by the "I've never seen this cause an allergic reaction" clear bandage covering the area after port removal. I didn't wait until the check up to remove the bandage, but even within 24 hours, the blistering became so severe that the open skin from the bandage took longer to heal than the incision, and the blistering continued getting worse for several days before it finally started to clear up. Those adhesive allergies can be really nasty.

I hope that you and your team can figure out what is happening and clear the reaction up quickly and completely. I will pray that it can be done without further surgery.

Maybe this will inspire the surgeon to speed up the drain removal just in case they are part of the problem. With all the issues I had with the adhesive allergies, drains are still the worst.

Emie, that sounds painful! I agree with Pat, that the welts could be from the adhesive. I had something very similiar happen to me and had little blisters all over my upper arm.

Keep us posted. I am praying for you.

Pat, THANK YOU for posting that as that has made me feel sooooo much better!! I didnt even think about the possibility it was adhesive migration and just hadnt been washed off yet.

Doctor took the drains out and gave me a script for steroid cream to use along with the steriods I'm taking orally. He too is hoping this is left over adhesive. I go back Monday.

Since he took the drains out yesterday, I was able to shower today and wash a little more thoroughly, I cant "scrub" cuz brings out the histamines and make the itching start. The water blisters popped yesterday, okay, I made them open.....anyway, no new ones! All the redness, and whelks are still there.

Hoping tomorrow will show some improvement!

Em, here's hoping it's the adhesive that was causing the problem. Kuddos to Pat for bringing this up and making you "feel better".

Glad you had those horrid drains out. I hated those things!
