Devotions

Postby Emerald » 28pm31America/New_York()

Many friends have come to me saying "I dont even know what to pray for anymore".

Have you ever felt that way? Either you have too much you want to talk to God about, or a very difficult situation and you are at a loss for words?

Well, God knew that we would be faced with moments in our lives where we are at a loss for what to pray.

Romans 8:26 And in the same way -by our faith- the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems AND in our praying. For we dont even know what we should pray for, nor how to pray as we should; but the Holy Spirit prays FOR us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words."

Paul continues in verse 27 "the Father who knows all hearts knows, of course, what the Spirit is saying as He pleads for us in harmony with God's own will."

And then he reminds us in verse 28 "we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into His plans."

This entire passage has brought me much comfort knowing I dont have to rely on myself! :angl:

Em, thank you for that devotion. I needed that. :uwink:

I know that sometimes I have so much on my mind that I can't even come up with the words to express myself in prayer. The thing I have to remember is that God doesn't care how "pretty" we say words. And then it seems that sometimes I just don't have the "clarity of mind" to pray. Do you know what I mean? Don't you make fun of me!

My DD is going on a Pilgrimage with her DH on April 7 (Thursday) and will return Sunday night. We will be babysitting. She hated to ask us to take care of the kids for that long knowing how much we will be responsible for. Plus SHE HATES leaving her children even over night/ :crzy: Not me when my kids were young but that may be because I stayed at home with them and they drove me :crzy: I could NOT say no. This will be an intense spiritual journey as I understand it. I am excited to know how it will affect her and my SIL's everyday life. Please pray for them while they on this "journey" and also PLEASE PLEASE pray for me and my DH while taking care of these little monsters. |-o :-- |-| ~X(

Okay, I hijacked the thread. I don't care...put those days on your calendar! Why are you such a little
:angl: ? You put me to shame. :bghd:

Did you know there is a difference between rejection and correction? It is important to know the difference in order to have the life Christ provides for us.

 God: corrects = convicts = grows
 Satan: rejects = condemns = defeats

Rev 3:19 "those He loves, He rebukes (sharply disapproves of behavior & actionss) & chastens (restrains)."

Prov 12:1 "he who hates corrections is stupid."

Cain was selfish (sign of insecurity) & refused correction (Gen 4:8)

Judas was a thief (sign of insecurity) & refused correction John 12:6

God doesn't reject anyone, people do. God only rejects wrong way of thinking and the only way to know the difference is to know what God's word says. Otherwise Satan takes over and you will FEEL rejected, condemned and defeated.

If people, who are outside the will of God, reject you then thank God for protecting you from them!!! :uwink:

Romans 28- Auntie Em - PLEASE explain innocent suffering. Someone born with a physical problem, that causes extreme emotional problems. AND it goes on and on and on and on.............. Prayers for years have been offered for this person

What a nice thought. I never would have thought of it that way. When people don't like us, we're under God's protection. I like that!

Shirley, your worried about 4 days with the Grandkids? I wish I was there to watch that. I'm already having fun just thinking about it.

Thank you for that insight into the scriptures.
The death of my mother (last October) & dealing with the estate is sadly putting a gigantic wedge in our family. All I want to do is sleep.

conviction & condemnation, what a difference between the two. Thank you.

Biggest question I think everyone asks is "Why do bad things happen to good people". Believers and non-believers alike want to know this.

I will share what I know through scripture and personal experience and hopefully it will help make sense of non-sense:

Every "why" can be traced back to Adam and Eve. If they had never allowed themselves to be deceived, they wouldn't have disobeyed God and there would be no sin in this world. Without sin, there is no evil, sickness, hunger, thirst, disasters, etc. Earth was meant to be just like Heaven and we already know that Heaven is without blemish. Rev 21:1 Then I saw a new earth and a new sky, for the present earth and sky had disappeared."

The reference here "new earth" and "new sky" tells me that earth as we know it wasn't suppose to be like this otherwise we wouldnt need a new one.

Rev 21:3 "Look, the home of God is now among men, and He will live with them...." Remember in Gen 3:10 "....I heard You coming and didn't want you to see me naked..." These 2 scriptures confirm that God's desire is to live in His fullness WITH us, not just His Holy Spirit. He can once sin is wiped out.

Now, I say all this to set the foundation for the fact that because of sin, God brought great flood. All those dead and decaying bodies cause diseases causing mutated genes, etc. Chemicals, disease, etc we are exposed to causes birth defects, cancer, and other chronic illnesses. Medications we may take while pregnant may cause birth defects.

So at the end of the day, if there were no sin, there would be no bad things happening to good people.

I know it sounds "deep" or even a little "out there" or some may say I'm "stretching" it, but at the end of the day, this is truth.

And the one we should be mad at is Satan and not God. Why does everyone blame God for bad things rather than the one truly responsible?

Could God intervene? Absolutely. Can God heal? Absolutely. Then why doesnt He? I have no idea, but I've seen miracles and I have been blessed with miracles that are unexplainable so I know He is a God of mercy, but I cant tell anyone why He has shown some mercy and others seemingly none.

Why do the innocent suffer? Well, and this may seem harsh, but it is reality, everyone needs to remember that when one makes a bad choice, it can affect many innocent people and it can do so for many generations. Birth defects of today are a result of wickedness back in Genesis that has multiplied for 1000's of years.

I saw a young man one time on GMA. He was blind and confined to a wheel chair. He said he never said to himself "God, why me?" he always said "God, why NOT me?" See, he knew how God could use him to witness to so many others that he was HUMBLED and PRIVELEDGED to be blind and confined. He said HE was the one blessed! What a testimony for how truly GREAT God is!

Voice, I dont know what the physical and emotional issues are for this person people have been praying for. I would only encourage those that are closest to him/her to take a step back and see if their good intentions may be what is causing the emotional issues.

I would offer this advice: God has already heard prayers for this person for healing, etc. Perhaps it is time to say "God, I cant help him/her/them, so I give them completely to You. Lord I totally trust You in whatever comes. I pray now that You will give me peace and strength to totally trust You. I also pray that You wont let me miss what You want me to do."

You never know what God is protecting this person from by them having this physical problem!

Laura Story song "Blessings" chorus:

Cuz what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life
Are Your mercies in disguise?

Well, my dear Em, you have one fact wrong. We are going to stay up there with them. However, it's much easier that way...they have to go to school...they have ball games they must attend and practises...the Church early service they will perform..they are having their "children's program" that morning...my granddaughter has a one liner...my DD almost went nuts when she found out that she would be missing this. I had to calm her down! LOL

Em, you do not understand me. I love, love, love my grandbabies. Especially when I first see them...those smiles...then back to being the :angl: ( :lfat: :boo: :spdr: D-] :waha: :dance: :fit: :bthd: ). It is much easier for us to take them to all the events since we live a little over 4 yours away.... :drvn: . :uwink: I have an idea....we'll take them to McD and they can eat and play there until it's time to go home, get a bath and go to bed..... >=;

Really, I don't have much energy but I'll just go with the flow with YOUR prayers! Again, I LOVE them and wanted them. I just wanted quiet little kids...LOL Not really. They are funny and my granddaughter is the biggest :drama: ....."My mommy doesn't love me!" "You should walk one mile in MY shoes!" "Ever since Grant turned 3 he gets on my nerves!" They have never met a stranger. I'll brag...they're very smart because they get it from my DH's side of the family :smug: ...he's smart. They get the other stuff from SIL's side of the family. :bee:

1 Sam 17 tells the account of David and Goliath. What's interesting to me, is what David did BEFORE facing the giant.

There are 3 specific things he did that stand out to me.

1) He acknowledged what he needed to do 1 Sam 17:32 "Don't worry about a thing," David told him, "I'll take care of this Philistine!"

2) He spoke boldy of victory 1 Sam 17:46 "Today the Lord will conquer you and I will kill you and cut off your head..." Perhaps it is a bit graphic, but it is definately bold!

3) He "hurried & ran TOWARD" (vs 48-49) Goliath, no hesitation slung 1 stone. Just 1 stone.

We need to acknowledge our problems, speak victory over them BEFORE attacking them then face them head-on without hesitation and God will guide that 1 stone right dead center bullseye!

BILLY GRAHAM
Current Age: 92 Truth...........from a man the media has never been able to throw dirt on.....amazing!

He has certainly hit the "world" on the head!

Billy Graham's Prayer For Our Nation

THIS MAN SURE HAS A GOOD VIEW OF WHAT'S HAPPENING TO OUR COUNTRY!

'Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask your forgiveness and to seek your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, 'Woe to those who call evil good,' but that is exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn and called it choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable. We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self esteem. We have abused power and called it politics. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of _expression. We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment. Search us, Oh God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and Set us free. Amen!'

Commentator Paul Harvey aired this prayer on his radio program, 'The Rest of the Story,' and received a larger response to this program than any other he has ever aired. With the Lord's help, may this prayer sweep over our nation and wholeheartedly become our desire so that we again can be called 'One nation under God!'

Sue I think Billy Graham is the closest thing to Christ as any sinner could possibly be. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Billy sits among Gabriel and Michael when he is called up to Heaven!

I love Billy Graham. But what I know of Billy Graham is that he was and is not an "open" political person. Remember when he wouldn't stand up with what's-her-name about homosexuality some years back. His entire work has been to preach the gospel and to lead others to Christ. That's why I checked Snopes and it says that Graham did not write the prayers.

Now Franklin another story. He's more of an outspoken than Billy is.

Recently Glenn Beck went to see him. He wanted to see him some months ago, but as Glenn put it, Graham said it wasn't time. Then either Glenn called him or Billy G. called him and said it was time. Glenn never shared what they talked about. But you could tell he truly enjoyed talking with him. Glenn is made fun of if he even mentions the book of Revelations. I have an idea that he talked to B. Graham about this chapter of the Bible.

Okay, don't get angry at me. But I had to check before someone else said something. And I don't even like Snopes.

Did you know that bad things can make you spiritually stronger?

James 1:2-4 "Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way."

So next time life throws you a curve ball, practice staying stable and watch the Devil wear himself out!

James 1:12 "Anyone who meets a testing challenge head-on and manages to stick it out is mighty fortunate. For such persons loyally in love with God, the reward is life and more life."

This is a song by Laura Story called "Blessings"
These lyrics are so perfect for todays devotion (IMHO)

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things

‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
And we cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt Your goodness, we doubt Your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
And long that we'd have faith to believe

‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near
And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know the pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home,
It's not our home

‘Cause what if Your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
And what if a thousand sleepless nights
Are what it takes to know You’re near

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can’t satisfy

And what if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are Your mercies in disguise

Em, the lyrics to that song has such meaning and truth. Thank you for posting.

I decided to go on YouTube and try to find the song. So, I'm posting it here in case anyone wants to listen to it. There's also her story behind that song.

There's a video on that same page about the story behind the song. Her DH had a brain tumor which took some time to diagnose. Anyway, it was good.

In your Palm Sunday prayers today, as you are praying for all of those who have been injured and killed in the storms and tornados yesterday, please also include a prayer of thanks for all those who were spared. I'm thinking specifically about all the hundreds who were in that Lowe's in Sanford North Carolina at the time the storm hit.

Pat, thanks so much for letting me know about this....I rarely watch the news, so I was unaware of any of this.

My intent when I started this thread was to post something at least 5 days a week. Unfortunately, I keep forgetting to....... :omg: Now I need to look for a smiley that pops itself upside the head.... :shhh:

Anyway, getting ready for todays so stand by....
